Ice cream scoop
- 2 Cups Heavy Cream
- 1 Cup Whole Milk
- 3/4 Cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Cocoa Powder
- 1/2 Cup Dark Chocolate Chips
- 2 Tbsp Orange Zest
- 1/4 Cup Orange Juice
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 Pinch Salt
Place your heavy cream in the large bowl. Add the sugar and the salt to it. Whisk them together until the sugar dissolves completely.
Zest two large oranges into a small dish. Ensure you only get the bright orange skin. Add this zest into your cream mixture now.
Warm the milk in your small saucepan. Do not let the milk come to a boil. Remove it from the heat once it gets hot.
Stir the cocoa powder into the warm milk. Add the dark chocolate chips to the pot. Stir until the mixture is very glossy and smooth.
Pour the chocolate milk into the cream bowl. Add the vanilla extract and fresh orange juice. Mix everything together with your hand mixer slowly.
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap tightly. Put the mixture in the fridge for two hours. This helps the flavors meld together well.
Pour the chilled liquid into your freezing container. Place the container in the back of your freezer. Stir the mix every thirty minutes for three hours.
Leave the ice cream to freeze overnight. This ensures it reaches the perfect scooping firmness. Serve it in chilled bowls the next day.
- Use cold heavy cream straight from the fridge.
- Always use fresh oranges for the best citrus scent.
- Sift your cocoa powder to avoid any lumps.
- Do not boil the cream or it may curdle.
- Chill the mixing bowl before you start whisking.
- Add a splash of orange liqueur for extra depth.
- Wait five minutes before scooping the frozen ice cream.
