Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tbsp Baking Powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 cup Cold Butter
  • 1 cup Chopped Ham
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 0.75 cup Whole Milk

Instructions

  • Pre-heat your oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut the cold butter into small pieces and work it into the flour mixture with a pastry cutter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in the chopped ham and shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  • Gradually pour in the milk and stir until a soft dough forms; do not over-mix.
  • Turn the dough onto a flat surface, pat it to 1-inch thickness, and cut out rounds using a biscuit cutter.
  • Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Allow to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving warm.

Notes

  • Tip 1: Always use very cold butter for flaky layers.
  • Tip 2: Do not over-mix the dough or it gets tough.
  • Tip 3: Grate your own cheese for a better melt.
  • Tip 4: Use a sharp knife to cut the ham small.
  • Tip 5: Brush the tops with melted butter for shine.
  • Tip 6: Keep the milk cold until you need it.
