  • The batter should be smooth now.

  • Make it about ¼ inch thick.
  • Cut out heart shapes with your cutter.
  • Cut small circles from half the hearts.
  • These will be the cookie tops.
  • Place cookies on the baking sheet.
  • Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes.

  • Don't overbake them at all.
  • Let cookies cool completely on the rack.
  • Spread jam on the whole heart cookies.
  • Place the cut-out hearts on top.
  • Dust with powdered sugar to finish.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter for easy mixing.
  • Cold butter won't cream properly with sugar.
  • Don't skip the chilling step for dough.
  • It prevents cookies from spreading too much.
  • Use thick jam for the best results.
  • Thin jam will run out during assembly.
  • Make sure cookies are completely cool first.
  • Warm cookies will make jam slide off.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container always.
  • They stay fresh for five days.
  • You can freeze unbaked dough for later.
  • Just thaw it before rolling and cutting.
