Ingredients
1
cup
of good quality vodka
chilled.
1/2
cup
of orange liqueur
like Cointreau.
1/2
cup
of unsweetened cranberry juice.
1/4
cup
of fresh lime juice
about 2 limes.
2
tablespoons
of sugar
for the rim.
1/2
cup
of ice cubes for shaking.
4
fresh cranberries
for the garnish.
4
thin strips of orange zest.
Instructions
Chill the Glasses
Place your martini glasses in the freezer. Keep them there for at least 20 minutes.
Rim the Glass
Rub a lime wedge around the glass rim. Dip the wet rim into white sugar.
Fill the Shaker
Add the ice cubes into your cocktail shaker. Pour in the vodka and orange liqueur.
Add the Juices
Pour the cranberry juice and lime juice in. These give the drink its famous red color.
Shake it Well
Put the lid on the shaker very tightly. Shake hard for 30 seconds until very cold.
Strain and Pour
Strain the liquid into your chilled martini glasses. Do not let any ice fall in.
Add the Garnish
Drop a few fresh cranberries into each glass. Finish with a twist of orange zest.
Notes
Use good vodka:
This is the most important tip. High-quality spirits make the drink much smoother.
Cold is better:
Keep all your liquid ingredients in the fridge. This keeps the ice from melting too fast.
Unsweetened juice:
Use 100% cranberry juice for a tart taste. Sweetened juice makes the drink much too sugary.
Fresh lime juice:
Never use the lime juice from a bottle. Fresh lime adds a necessary bright, sour kick.
Shake it hard:
You want tiny ice crystals to form. This ensures the martini stays cold until the end.
