Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Sharp Chef Knife
  • Sturdy Cutting Board
  • Measuring spoons
  • Small Glass Jar

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ICEBERG LETTUCE
  • 4 oz TURKEY BREAST
  • 2 slices PROVOLONE CHEESE
  • 1/4 cup WHITE ONION
  • 1/2 cup ROMA TOMATOES
  • 1 tbsp EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL
  • 1 tsp RED WINE VINEGAR
  • 1/2 tsp DRIED OREGANO
  • 1 pinch SEA SALT

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Wash the lettuce in very cold water. This makes the leaves stay quite crunchy. Shake off all the extra water well. You want the lettuce to be dry. Dry leaves hold the oil much better.

Step 2:

  • Place the lettuce on your cutting board. Slice it into very thin ribbons. Use a long and sharp knife. This is called a chiffonade cut. Put the ribbons into your large bowl.

Step 3:

  • Stack your turkey and provolone cheese slices. Slice them into small squares or strips. Make sure the pieces are bite-sized. Scatter them over the bed of lettuce. Keep the layers neat and pretty.

Step 4:

  • Peel and slice your white onion rings. Make them as thin as possible. Place a few rings on the top. This adds a nice crunch and spice. Do not add too many at once.

Step 5:

  • Dice the Roma tomatoes into small cubes. Place them around the bowl for color. The red looks great against the green. This makes the dish look very professional.

Step 6:

  • Mix the oil and vinegar in a jar. Shake it until the liquid looks cloudy. Drizzle it slowly over the entire bowl. Make sure every ingredient gets some dressing. This is the "Juice" part.

Step 7:

  • Sprinkle the dried oregano and salt. Use a fork to toss everything together. Be gentle so you do not crush things. Your Jersey Mike's bowl is now ready. Enjoy it while it is fresh.

Notes

  • Use very cold lettuce for the best crunch.
  • Shred the lettuce thin for an authentic feel.
  • Add hot cherry peppers for a spicy kick.
  • Use high-quality olive oil for better flavor.
  • Slice your onions paper thin for mild taste.
  • Pat the tomatoes dry to avoid extra water.
  • Season with extra pepper if you like spice.
  • Double the meat for a very filling meal.
