Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Wooden spoon
  • Can opener
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs GROUND BEEF
  • 1 large WHITE ONION
  • 3 cloves GARLIC
  • 1/4 cup CHILI POWDER
  • 1 tsp GROUND CUMIN
  • 15 oz TOMATO SAUCE
  • 15 oz DICED TOMATOES
  • 15 oz PINTO BEANS
  • 15 oz KIDNEY BEANS
  • 1 tsp SALT
  • 1/2 tsp BLACK PEPPER

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Place your large pot on the stove. Turn the heat to medium now. Let the pot get a little warm.

Step 2:

  • Add the ground beef to the pot. Cook the meat until it is brown. Use your spoon to break it up.

Step 3:

  • Look for any extra grease in the pot. Carefully drain the liquid into a jar. This keeps the chili from being oily.

Step 4:

  • Add the chopped white onions to the beef. Stir them together for five minutes. The onions should look very soft.

Step 5:

  • Press the garlic into the pot now. Stir it for only sixty seconds. You will smell the nice garlic aroma.

Step 6:

  • Pour in the thick tomato sauce next. Add the cans of diced tomatoes too. Give the pot a very good stir.

Step 7:

  • Open your cans of beans with the opener. Pour the beans and liquid into the pot. The liquid makes the sauce very rich.

Step 8:

  • Measure out your chili powder and cumin. Sprinkle them over the top of the mix. Add your salt and pepper now too.

Step 9:

  • Turn the heat down to a low setting. Let the chili simmer for thirty minutes. Cover the pot with a heavy lid.

Step 10:

  • Check the pot and stir it sometimes. This prevents the bottom from burning. The chili will get thick and dark.
