Large Stockpot
Sharp knife
Cutting board
Wooden spoon
Fine mesh strainer
Ladle
- 8 Cups Apple Cider
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 2 Sticks Cinnamon
- 1 Tsp Whole Cloves
- 1 Large Orange
- 2 Whole Star Anise
- 2 Medium Apples
Place your large stockpot on the stove. Pour the fresh apple cider into the pot slowly. Do not let the liquid splash on the sides.
Add the brown sugar to the cold cider now. Stir the mixture with your wooden spoon carefully. Make sure the sugar starts to dissolve.
Wash your orange and apples under cool water. Slice them into thick rounds using your sharp knife. Place the fruit slices into the pot gently.
Drop the cinnamon sticks and cloves into the liquid. Add the star anise for extra spice and aroma. Stir everything one more time to combine.
Turn the stove to medium-high heat right now. Bring the cider to a very light simmer. Do not let the liquid reach a hard boil.
Reduce the heat to low once it is warm. Cover the pot with a lid for one hour. This allows the spices to infuse the cider.
Turn off the heat after the time is up. Use your strainer to remove the fruit and spices. Pour the clear cider into warm mugs immediately.
- Use fresh local cider for a much better taste.
- Do not boil the cider or it may turn bitter.
- Keep the lid on to trap all the aromas.
- Taste the cider before serving to check the sweetness.
- Add extra cinnamon sticks if you love a spicy kick.
- Always wash your fruit before slicing it for the pot.
- Simmer on low heat to keep the cider very clear.
